Volunteers Step Up For Mike's House / Habitat for Humanity

Our Habitat for Humanity steering committee reports great progress on Mike's House. We began building a new home in early September in memory of beloved deacon Mike McDuffie. Construction is on schedule, and volunteers are meshing well with Habitat professionals. Project leader is Mark Rufty, and Asst. House Leaders are Jesse Tart and Bob Harris.

The Tentative date for a Dedication Ceremony is Saturday November 15th, with a possible Pig Picking. See our church bulletin and website for the latest updates.

The new construction is a house now, as the floors, walls, siding, roof, and inside work on plumbing, electrical, heating & air have all been completed. Current work projects include painting inside, cabinet installation and landscaping. Volunteers will be needed on Thursdays and Saturdays as we continue work until the November dedication. Contact Volunteer Coordinators Teresa Kidd or Dick Crane to help with construction or with the dedication.

Digital pictures of the house and our progress can be seen in Lewis Hall, and in the church narthex - provided by Dan DeGraaf and Kathy McDuffie. The DeGraafs are serving as Family Partners, assisting the Jack Wilson family who will live in this new home. The Wilson family visited and were introduced to our congregation on Labor Day weekend. Food Coordinators are Jackie Powell and Kathy McDuffie.

Letters have been mailed to the congregation about funding this project. As of October 15th, we have raised over $25,000 of the $40,000 goal from 58 giving units, including a $5,000 gift-in-kind donation by Desco, Inc., McDuffie's former employer. For more information on the fund, contact Wendy Harris in our business office, or David Simmons on our project steering committee.

Follow the progress through the following pictures. And check back later for the dedication.
