Witness Season
The theme for the 2012 Witness Season is taken from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, where he clearly set for all of us the standards for our daily Christian living. “You are the light of the World” is a declaratory directive from Jesus which is reinforced by his words to “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works” in all of our human interactions, not just on Sundays.
As we review all of the opportunities for “lighting the world” that First Presbyterian Disciples have locally, nationally, and internationally, it is important that we channel all of our personal and corporate resources to maximize the receiving of the most “light.” It is important that each disciple insures that they have an on-going source for their own Christian “light” in order to be able to participate in and sustain the shared “lights” of our six mission outreach projects for 2012, which are:
FOREIGN MISSIONS DOMESTIC MISSIONS
Brazil $15,000 Rowan Helping Ministries $20,000
TWAM 8,000 Habitat for Humanity 10,000
Mwandi Hospital/Chapel 9,000 Meals on Wheels 6,000
$32,000 $36,000
These Witness Season missions reflect long term relationships with our congregation. They have been selected based on the investment of “light” our congregation has historically shed on them financially, and, on the opportunities these missions provide to our disciples to personally invest their “lights” in these ministries.
It is only possible for the Christian Disciples of First Presbyterian Church to be Jesus’ “Light in the World,” if we keep the oil in our lamps supplied through daily preparation. It will be impossible to “light the entire house,” locally or internationally, if our “whole bodies are not filled with the Light.” So, make your commitment today to financially and personally be Jesus’ “Light of the World” during this Witness Season.
