About Us New to First Pres.?
Welcome to our new website at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury. Six years ago we journeyed to Salisbury from Lawrence, Kansas because of God’s call. I pray that God may be calling you to be part of our ministries as well. First Presbyterian Church is a place where the Spirit of God is alive and well!
Our focus in all we do is on ‘discipleship’. We are striving to be known as a discipleship congregation where the focus is on service, rather than being a membership congregation where the focus is on entitlement. Our mission statement calls us to be a community recruiting disciples for the kingdom of God, renewing disciples in their faith development, and reaching out to a world in need. We have objectives to help us measure how well we are fulfilling our mission.
We have a strong ministry to children: a spectacular rotation-model Sunday School “Disciple-ship”, a phenomenal Wednesday night program during the school year, and one of the most amazing Vacation Bible Schools you will ever experience during the summer. We long for all children to discover God’s love for them.
This church also has a vital Youth Ministry for all Middle School and High School youth. During the school year Middle School Youth meet on Wednesday night and the High School Discipleship meets on Sunday evening. During the summer there are planned activities and a High School Mission trip. Youth Ministry has always been a strong trait of this church.
Our adult discipleship includes wonderful classes on Sunday morning, Spiritual Growth Groups, and Wednesday Connections during the school year. Providing growth for discipleship is imperative to all that we are doing.
The call to discipleship is taken very seriously as we seek to serve beyond the walls of this church. There are many local missions that we support not only with financial gifts but also the gift of time and effort by many volunteers. We also reach out internationally to a medical mission in Mwandi; a medical, school, and construction mission in Brazil; and our High School youth have gone to Mexico for the past 20 years.
God’s call is loud and clear to us to “go into all the world” sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
