Day School

Our Mission

First Presbyterian Church Day School is a ministry in which preschool children have the opportunity to grow and develop in a Christian environment that nurtures their individual spirit.  Preschool is a vital time in a child’s life as they are grasping new concepts like problem-solving, reasoning, thinking, and creating. Our purpose is to teach children these skills and more in a safe, loving atmosphere that celebrates the mental, social, physical, and spiritual growth of each child.  The Day School provides a wide range of learning experiences for each child and recognizes that children learn at an individual pace. Our staff encourages learning through independent play, one-on-one time, and small group activities. Our class centers are designed for students to gain cognitive skills, gross and fine motor skills, and communicative development. These skills combined with a curriculum that focuses on early literacy and math skills make First Presbyterian Day School an ideal and unique learning experience for your child.

Toddler Class

First Presbyterian Day School is one of the few area churches that offer a class for one-year-olds. This is an exciting class as the toddlers are developing so much each week! Most children come in still learning to walk and talk and leave our program singing their ABCs and reciting nursery rhymes. Our toddler teachers introduce a shape, color, song, and nursery rhyme each month. They also explore seasonal themes that enhance their learning experience. Children share in snack time, circle time, and have free play in the climbing room.

Two-Year-Old Class

Our two-year-olds keep us on our toes! This is a time when communication skills are becoming more advanced. Other skills are being developed that include potty training, gross motor skills, and social skills. The teachers encourage children to explore and learn while conducting table activities, free play, and creative learning. Our two-year-olds enjoy art, music, trips to the library and the playground. In addition to reviewing colors, shapes, and nursery rhymes, children are introduced to a new letter each week and while they may not know it, they are fully immersed in learning all about numbers and counting.

Three-Year-Old Class

The Three-Year-Old Class encompasses all that our toddlers and two-year-olds have learned while beginning to explore more advanced skills.  Students begin to enhance the development of fine motor skills by doing activities that involve scissor tasks and small tray tasks. Teachers create an exciting learning environment through the exploration of science, music, and art. Weekly lessons are designed around children focusing on early literacy and math skills such as sequencing, patterns, and letter/word recognition. Children explore their community by going on monthly field trips to the library as well as other places like Lazy 5 Ranch and Patterson Farms.

Pre-K Class

Our Pre-K Class has a fun time learning while strongly getting prepared for Kindergarten.  By setting a solid foundation in the Three-Year-Old Class, our four and five-year-olds are ready to fine-tune all the skills they have developed. Students gain more responsibilities in this class by doing independent morning work followed by center time in which children adapt their social and communication skills among their peers. Students engage in science, math, and literacy activities that make them excited to be at school and learn. They leave our program with the knowledge and confidence for Kindergarten.

Praise Time

God’s love for children is evident throughout our Day School. Each class learns a different Bible verse each month. Our Toddlers and Two-Year-Olds explore different characters in the Bible through storytime and art. Our Three and Four-Year-Olds attend a weekly Praise Time where our Co-Pastors share a brief time teaching the children about stories of the Bible and stewardship. Praise Time is filled with learning and laughter while knowing that each child is a special gift from God.

After-School Activities

The Day School provides optional after school activities for our Threes and Pre-K Classes that expand on monthly themes. These classes are designed to offer the additional time needed for parents, as well as engage the students in a fun, entertaining way. Classes explore topics such as art, science, and foreign language. Pick up is between 12:50 and 1:00 pm.
